# Sidecar Agent-native CI/CD: one builder, one runner. Not a microservice pipeline. ## The problem People now use Claude Code / Codex CLI (and similar) to build **and** serve inside the same container. That’s dangerous — the agent and production share one trust boundary. Traditional microservice CI/CD is the wrong answer: slow, drift-prone, and far from how agents actually work. The builder should be as close to production as possible — without letting the agent live there. ## The model **Sidecar = one builder + one runner.** | | Builder | Runner | |---|---|---| | Shape | A Linux | A Linux / container | | Role | Where the CLI lives, builds, and ships | Where the product runs | | Trust | Dev / agent / test surface | Isolated from test/dev | The CLI lives only in the builder. It builds and ships to the runner. The runner stays nicely isolated from the test/dev env. Same OS shape on both sides so “what you built” ≈ “what you run” — but privilege does not.
